Shooting Star RV Resort/Drive-In
Pulling down the road to the Shooting Star RV Resort, you’ll note that you’re just minutes away from Escalante, but the traffic of the town and Scenic Byway 12 can’t be heard.
There’s plenty of space (in vast stretches of the Southern Utah desert, it can feel like there’s nothing but glorious wide-open space) as you search for the most pristine place to park your RV. The million-dollar views of the nearby buttes covered in juniper and sage can’t be beat, especially as you take them in at sunset while grilling.
If you are simply looking for accommodations, you’ve chanced upon a true diamond in the rough. The vintage Airstreams at Shooting Star are one of a kind, and will transport you to another time. The decor is set to resemble the trailers of famous actors on-set at classic Hollywood movies. The Airstreams are located in two separate rows and are named as follows: Sugar’s Shack, Holly’s Hideaway, Mrs. Rutledge’s Room, Ann’s Cabana, The Kid’s Hideout, Cary’s Cabin, Bogie’s Boathouse, and The Duke. You’ll be living like John Wayne and Marilyn!
Shooting Star is designed for fun and comfort. A real treat for your stay is the drive-in theater, which airs movies from the ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, encompassing the classic to the kitsch. Movies begin at sunset and are shown on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights only — so plan your trip accordingly. You can bring a lawn chair or blanket to take in the movie, or better yet, you can rent a 1960s classic convertible for a scant $20 and get cozy (with the top up or down).
When you’re not staring at a classic screen or gawking at your awesome accommodations, there’s plenty to do at Shooting Star. Aside from the panoramic views of the Grand Staircase, Escalante Mountains, and Dixie National Forest, you can get out into the wild by booking a guided tour (through an affiliate guide company) or renting an ATV or off-road 4WD vehicle. While at the resort, don’t miss a chance to connect with other travelers and families at the community fire pits for some s’mores action.
You’ll find plenty of adventure nearby, as well. Shooting Star RV Resort is in close proximity to three national parks — Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Zion — as well as Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, Calf Creek Falls, Hole-in-the-Rock Road’s slot canyons, and so much more—that is, if you can actually pull yourself away from the resort.
Put Shooting Star on your bucket list if you are a road tripper who likes the chic and unique of canyon country.
